ALERT! : Heavy Rain Expected in Sri Lanka

The Meteorological Department says that there may be a low-pressure area forming over the southeast Bay of Bengal around November 23, which is likely to intensify into a depression over the southwest Bay of Bengal in the subsequent two days.

This system is expected to strengthen further and could move closer to Sri Lanka’s eastern coast, potentially bringing adverse weather conditions to the region.

Showers and thundershowers are predicted across the island, with heavy rainfall exceeding 100 mm expected in certain areas of the Western, Sabaragamuwa, Central, and Southern provinces.

Misty conditions are also likely during the morning in parts of the Western, Sabaragamuwa, Central, Uva, and Southern provinces. The Northern, North-Central, and Eastern provinces may experience showers or thundershowers at times, while other areas are likely to see rain in the evening or night.

Given these forecasts, the general public is urged to remain vigilant and take necessary precautions to minimize the potential damage caused by strong winds and lightning during thundershowers.

The Meteorological Department advises staying updated with regular weather bulletins for further information and warnings.
